Campus Teams are integrated into the On-Campus Program with planned content for each meeting. This is vital to the veteran as it will not only create peer to peer relationships, but also a network of support, social components, and opportunities of external engagement. The Student Veterans Foundation learned through extensive research that the lack of structure on campuses causes one of the key issues. Building community is vital. Humans are designed to work together, not alone and we work better when we have a team to share our experiences with.
When they first arrive on campus, each veteran will be integrated into a team that will assist her or him with navigation of the college, introduce the veteran to external networks, and offer support if any issues arise. The Campus Team will foster relationships through problem solving, increased awareness, trust, and structured regular meetings.
Coming from a team environment in the military that is very structured to an unstructured confusing environment on campuses can be difficult for veterans that are very used to being in a structured team environment. This type of disorientation can cause problems for the veteran especially when invisible wounds are existing. If left unaddressed this can cascade into other more serious issues.
